Letter of Appreciation
Robin
Summerfield, representing Maryland Senator Ben Cardin,
addresses an audience of 50 at the Civic Council-sponsored
Seniors Resource Center in Frederick, MD, on December
10, 2008. He discussed some of the challenges facing
the Social Security and Medicaid systems, and some of
the options for addressing those problems.

Thomas

Council to 50 guests gathered at its Seniors Resource
Center in Frederick, Maryland, on December 10, 2008.
Among the issues discussed was the need to achieve a
fairer COLA calculation for Seniors, as well as the
dangers posed by a totalization agreement with Mexico.

Zambian Orphans Celebrate
with Christmas Cards from Frederick

wore worn-out clothes and sat on broken benches in a
dilapidated school house, but their faces were washed
and their eyes shone with joy.
More than 600 Zambian children orphaned by AIDS waited

A 7-year-old girl named Gift is so poor she can't get

Seniors with African Orphans

Cromwell was on a business trip in Africa when he saw
how dedicated a Zambian farmer is to helping orphaned
children.
The children became orphans when their parents died
of HIV or AIDS. They go to Zambia Hope International

Public invited to opening
of Seniors Resource Center

Seniors Resource Center opens 10 a.m. today at 1780G
N. Market St. The public is invited.
Center Director Susan Hilberg said the public will
have an opportunity to see the center and discover what
programs and activities will be offered by the nonprofit
